Oprah Calling for Home Improvement

In the world of self-help, it doesn’t get much bigger than Oprah. The media maven has the incredibly ability of taking just about any topic and making it seem fixable, from the mundane to the most inane. The Home Renovation Guide has its own stable of experts to answer your home improvement queries, but now Oprah wants to hear from you too! On Thursday, Ty Pennington, he of Trading Spaces and Extreme Makeover fame, will be on the show, answering the questions of viewers like you. In the words of one of Oprah’s production assistants:

We live in a +50 complex and are probably one of the youngest couples here. Our property is a duplex walkout and requires a patio enslosure. We have been searching the web for ideas on materials to use and designs that will be asthetically pleasing, in a senior’s environment. We live in Alberta, where winters can be brutal, so we want some protection from the elements, including a chilling northwest wind. We have an existing cement patio with cover from the upper deck. My husband is laying a new cement pad beside the existing one, to accommodate a hot tub as we both suffer back, hip and neck pain.
We would love to hear from Ty; HELP !!!

Dear Ty or Oprah, I recently have decided to get out of an abusive relationship of 10 years. I have now been BLESSED to be in true LOVE with my best friend whom as purchased a home right next door to him for me. And I am so grateful. The problem is, while he makes sure I hsve a roof over my head along with my children, His home is falling apart(really)! Steven is a single father of 7 girls and he is truely amazing, Never complains about the things he can not change but he continues to move forward. 2010 we are getting married thier will be 10 children plus 2 grandchildren that we keep in the summer. With two house holds and no assiting for neither one of us It’s hard to maintain most of the time. My vision is too have the houses connected some type of way so we would only have one bill of everything. Ty I have seen your work, And Oprah I have watched the BLESSING that you have shared. If I had 3 wishes in my life #1 Never trade your soul for life,#2 continue to be a better mother and new mother,#3Make one home for all of us. P.S I will help in anyway. Dear, Oprah My husband lost his job due to the economy. He has been looking very hard. On top of that we now have no bathroom to take a shower or a bath due to a previous roof leak that caused a mold issue. I have been breaking out in hives. my husband has had headaches. I think this was because of the mold. He has torn out all of the bathroom the walls are gone the mold removed thank GOD! I hope this improves are health problems. Now we need to remove this shower/tub incert it is to big to get it out of the bathroom. As i write you he is tearing off the door frame in hopes we can remove it that way. my home is in a big mess. We are tring real hard to reclaim it. I now dream of a job for my husband and a hot shower. My husband is a hard worker someday i know he will find work. I hope you can select us to give a hot shower to. thank you so much for letting me write to you your fan Tammy

Dear Oprah and Ty we now have the shower and bath incert in the kicthen. Help! I wanted to make chili today. I can see the basement threw the hole in the floor. We hope to save this incert to save money and put it in the half bath downstairs so we have a back up bathroom my husband is a little overwelmed. when moving the insert I hit the kitchen light and knocked it off the ceiling. Now we have to repair that. thanks for letting me get this off my chest. Tammy

My bestfriend have helped me and my dauter,they helped me to get back to work.they rent out place for vaction.They let me work for them to get money save up os I could get back on my feet.Ilove them There house in aurora colorado needs a lote done. would love too help them but.I dont even have enuff to stand on my feet.you have it all to do what they need.PLEASE HELP ME TO HELP THEM. and thanks’ for always’being there oprah. p.s when I worked at a restion you get to see so much.There was a lady that had a day care. she was having a lot of troubles trying to find a plase for her and her childern and teachers. I dont know if you could help them too? THANKS” for letting me hopefulty help them.

Dear Oprah and Ty,
I must say that I love both of your shows and you are both just fantastic. I am a fourteen year old girl in the ninth grade whose back kitchen is filled with mold on the roof. My mother will not let me go back there whats so ever because she fears I might get sick from all of it. Recently we have tried a bennefit plate sale to make money to try to repair it but we are still short alot of money. If I was old enough to get a job, I would, just to help my mom. Everyday I see her stress out over how much she has to do, clean house, feed me, take care of me, pay the bills that some of them are starting to get over due, and still worry about putting some money aside to try to fix the kitchen. I hate seeing her stress out because of something that can easily be fixed only if we had enough money. This Christmas my wish was to find a way to help my mom and so hoopefully this works *fingers crossed*. I really do hope you will be able to help us. It would be the best Christmas present ever and it would help my mom.

I am a single parent who raised my son’s now helping my 83 year old Mom. Have used my 401K to remodle my home to no advail. Put in windows, siding, new water pipes, new air conditioner. Still have no water pressure and air not even two years old frozen up and leaking water through sealing. have done everything they have requested and can not get help. Bathroom has mold. Had a fire kithen cabinets replaced by insurance who suggested using ServPro they hired an outside contractor. My kitchen cabinets literally fell on my mom have pictures. Insurance company said they are not responsilbe and ServPro said they are not. I am wiped out and have no where to turn except to get advcie from Oprah. Do not want any money just want someone to insepct my houe and tell me what to do. Where to go for reliable help and what I need to do. Have worked two jobs since 1988 and will work a third to get things straight,

Hello Oprah,
I am really getting discouraged, I have been out of work now for just about 1 year and my other half also can’t find work, we own a three story apartment building and a camp up in the woods. Very primative, small but no indoor plumbing. We worked hard to get this and now everything is in jeporady. Just trying to make ends meet is a struggle, and my unemployment is coming to and end. Over the winter we had a roof leak, and now it only is getting worse. I had someone try to fix it, but It only made it worse, and to top it off it cost me a couple hundred dollars that I really didn’t have to put out. What we really need is a new roof, It’s an old building and needs repair so we could start renting it again to bring in an income to help us with the mortage to the bank and maybe get ahead again. This would at least be a start, I have a asked for help from all different places, but only to get the same answer. We own too much, and make too much. Oprah, I only have my unemployement, and a few cleaning jobs. I don’t understand, I am beside myself and didn’t know where else to turn. I Pray everyday for strength, wisdom and knowledge. God has got me throu the hard times, but unfortunatly he can’t fix out roof, So I am turning to you for my last one hope. Dear Ophrah:I am asingle mom living with my three girls twenty one and twenty five also i have two grandsons fourteen and six years old.We live in one of the three homes inwhich my mother owns,my mother is seventynine years old and even though we all pay rent in the house we live in its still not enough.My mother had avery renter at one time as a result she never wants to rent again.WE STILL OWE on one home and the amount is too much for mom to handle.My mom is also going blind she is a beautiful women she would also like some imformation on how to publish her frist book along wth information on home improvement grants.Thank you for your time.
